There is something bestial about Clovis Cornillac\'s appearance and roles like the one in question seem to fit him like a glove (unlike the one of Asterix). Aggressive to the upper limit, but shy and somewhat naive at the same time - thats him.

Scorpion is somehow similar to the legendary Rocky - the story about the little boy from the poor suburbs with the sole dream of becoming a sports star and the sacrificial effort to achieve it. We can also compare the story to Danny the dog (starring Jet Li) for its typical French criminal sub-plot, but not as great as if Luc Besson has left his touch on the screenplay. Here, we have some illegal boxing games, and a life in slavery for the participants in them. On the other hand, theres this beautiful prostitute with a little child. The two situations are too similar to neglect the common features. And of course we also have the initial unwise act of the protagonist that ruined his life and put his dreams to an end. From this point on, it is all a desperate struggle for him to reach the basic sense for himself once more and rise again.

In general Scorpion is not the perfect innovative film but it is well done, very well I could add. It is not too complicated in any of its aspects and it\'s definitely not a fighting movie emphasizing too much on blood and violence. There are several minor plots, trivial and easy to recognize. However, the actors play is brilliant and the soundtrack is surprisingly good. So, it is a simple, easy to watch movie that provides some great moments for all senses and a nice impression to remember it for. For a while at least.

And we really need such films. You cant always sink into deeply philosophical dramas nor experience epic action movies, nor be obsessed by the highly overwhelming style of a particular movie star.
