Such movies should be automatically placed among the \"How to avoid it and never ever do it again\" examples, and then - just then - they must be finally condemned to oblivion. Or if I may paraphrase the Grand Master of Science Fiction and unfortunate author of the literature original behind all that \"Starship Troopers\" spawn, Robert Heinlein, it\'s an everlasting disgrace to the Mobile Infantry.

One might find quite appealing the idea that if something is the third sequel of another thing, there is a quite good probability its authors to have learned something through the years or that the whole story had found some track of its own. And it\'s not that Paul Verhoeven disappointed most of the hardcore sci-fi fans with the first one. At least it was a spectacular and expensive, though rather simple action movie. It\'s that second DVD-release, that bad excuse for an action even, they should have learned from. But alas, \"Starship Troopers 3\" with Casper van Dien returning is here, and so are we.

Well, if I should describe it in the shortest way possible, it reminds me mostly of those conveyer half-actions, half-horrors from the 80\'s - some sketchy plot, lots of lead and disturbing background noises. No, I\'m serious. A long long time ago, during a childhood far far away, I\'ve actually seen the \"Scanners\", and I really didn\'t expect high-pitch sounds and blowing heads in 2008.

Still, the scene and the FX could be pointed out successful enough, but maybe they would suit better to some long term TV-series of a kind, and definitely not the best ones among them - there isn\'t enough quality CGI for that purpose. And unfortunately, that\'s the best of it. Furthermore, \"Starship Troopers 3\" lacks any sign of decent actor performance and the dialogue is even worse, if you could imagine that\'s possible, closing fast to mindnumbing B-action brainwasher.

So, if you\'re still looking for any particular excuse to watch it - don\'t, or try Jolene Blalock. It\'s as good as any, and although this is not the movie that she will be remembered with, you may actually focus your eyesight on something nice.
